Plantsbrook Nature Reserve.

Trip out to Plantsbrook today on overcast if mild morning, cracks me up how some people even now insist on wearing layer upon layer, hat and gloves like it's the depths of winter just to make the 30 second journey to the heated car, still like I said, nice mild morning today.

Nice again to see a flock of Siskin today, as was seeing 20+ Reed Bunting, a nice sight if very brief was seeing the iridescent blue flash of a Kingfisher darting across the large lake. There were also two Great Spotted Woodpecker having a noisy territorial dispute.

It is a said state of affairs when I only saw one Starling (flying overhead) and two House Sparrow at Plantsbrook but I saw 50+ Starling and 20+ House Sparrow in Sainsbury's car park, hardly their natural habitat. Another disturbing fact is the general but steady decline at this location, the kids seem to run riot here of a night with vandalism, drug taking and litter on the rise since the removal of the ranger plus the council don't seem to know what they're doing, the wooden and fences and bridge are being wrecked on what seem a daily basis, what's the council's answer ? Bring in the Payback wallahs and chop down large swathes of threes and just leave the debris anywhere. There was a great little spot to leave bird seed and apple etc then just sit back and watch all the birds and Grey Squirrels etc. come in and feed, but no the council have other ideas i.e. slowly destroy this little haven for the wildlife, plus the kids have smashed up all the bird tables, sometimes I just hate people.

Back to the birds, feathered friends seen today were Blue Tit, Great Tit, Coal Tit, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Siskin, Reed Bunting, Robin, Wren, House Sparrow, Starling, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Cormorant, Grey Heron, Moorhen, Coot, Tufted Duck, Mallard and Canada Goose.
