Plantsbrook Nature Reserve.
Went to Plantsbrook Nature Reserve today in Pype Hayes even though I'm suffering from man flu. Three lakes were completely iced over with a thin layer of ice but the main lake was only about a quarter iced over, leaving plenty of water for the birds that are there. Today's bird spots for the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/ (the highest number of each bird species seen) were as follows :-

Back Garden Spotting.
Saw a Redcap (Female) in the back garden today for the first time, feeding on an apple tied in the tree with some string, she also enjoyed some peanuts. Also the Pied Wagtail has been visiting the garden again over the last couple of days.
Other visitors today have been Long Tailed Tits, Coal Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Song Thrushes, Robins, Dunnocks, Sparrows, Collared Doves, Wood Pigeons, Feral Pigeons, Magpies and the usual daily visit of approx 20 Starlings.

Edgbaston Reservoir.
A trip to a cold and wet Edgbaston today. Birds spotted were a flock of 30 plus Redwings, a flock of 30 plus Goldfinches, Pied Wagtails, Great Crested Grebes, Cormorants, Long Tailed Tits, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Chaffinches and Robins. There was also lots of Moorhens all around the Reservoir.

River Cole, Coleshill.
A walk along the River Cole in Coleshill today. Birds of note spotted today were a flock of 20 plus Redwings, a Buzzard, Fieldfares, a flock of 20 plus Goldfinches, Long Tailed Tits, Great Tits, Blue Tits, a Grey Heron and Robins. I also saw a Rabbit.

Ward End Park.
A short 30 minute walk around a slighty iced over Ward End Park lake today, without my binoculars. All the birds spotted today were a Grey Heron, a Greylag Goose, Canada Geese, a Swan, Tufted Ducks, Mallards, Pekin Ducks, Muscovy Ducks, Moorhens, Coots, Lesser Black Backed Gulls, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Robins, Blackbirds, Tree Sparrows, Starlings, Magpies, Wood Pigeons and Feral Pigeons.

River Cole/Shard End Lake/Kingshurst Lake.
Had a walk today, starting from the River Cole at Burney Lane Stechford then to Shard End Lake and then onto Kingshurst Lake, which was nice. Birds of note spotted were a Kingfisher, a Great Spotted Woodpecker doing what he does best, a Nuthatch, Goldfinches, Long Tailed Tits, Blue Tits, Great Tits, Robins, a Song Thrush, Goosanders, Grey Herons (3 on Kingshurst Lake alone) Tufted Ducks, Great Crested Grebes, plenty of Moorhens as well.
