Shard End Lake and Babb's Mill Nature Reserve.

                   Shard End Lake.

                   Babb's Mill Nature Reserve.

This a repost from yesterday as it's been deleted somehow. Yesterday's trip out was to Shard End Lake, Babb's Mill Nature Reserve in Kingshurst and the adjacent River Cole. The highlight was a toss up between seeing a couple of Whitethroat, a male Woodpecker darting to and from a tree with insects probably feeding some young or seeing a female Mallard with ten ducklings on the banks of the River Cole. Bird species spotted at Shard End lake were Swift, House Martin, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Tree Sparrow, Starling, Collared Dove, Great Crested Grebe, Tufted Duck, Moorhen, Duckling, Gosling, Coot chick and my first Moorhen chicks of the year. Bird species spotted at Babb's Mill Nature Reserve were Whitethroat, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Kestrel, Swift, House Martin, House Sparrow, Starling, Robin, Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Grey Heron, Great Crested Grebe, Mute Swan, Tufted Duck, Duckling, Gosling and Coot chick. One thing I noticed today was how low the River Cole is, it was so low the Mallard's were having to practically walk in the water, so there was no chance of seeing a Kingfisher, so fingers crossed for some decent rainfall soon.
