Shustoke Reservoir.

Fantastic visit to Shustoke Reservoir this morning with perfect weather, sunshine, blue skies and a breeze.

Obviously it's always great to see lots of juveniles and today didn't disappoint, I hadn't even left the car park and I already saw juvenile House Sparrow, Pied Wagtail and Grey Wagtail, which was then followed by, Whitethroat, Chiffchaff, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Swallow, Jackdaw, Carrion Crow and Mallard, in fact I saw juvenile Whitethroat all around the reservoir so they must have had a great breeding year at this location, the Chiffchaff was a chance sighting as it appeared in my view as I was looking at the young Carrion Crow in the last photo, again the juvenile Swallow was a lucky spot as it was seen on a telegraph wire, other than that there were five Great Crested Grebe and three Coot on the nest.

Not great news for other birds but there were a few Buzzard seen high in the skies above the fields that are adjacent to the reservoir, also seen high in the skies were a good number of Skylark.

One of the large fields that is adjacent to the water and also runs alongside the railway line appears to be have left to to it's own devices or some kind of re-wilding project appears to be taking place, either way it looks great with a great mixture of wildflowers, weeds and even plenty of young trees including very young Oak, let's hope it is left this way especially as the horrendous HS2 'project' is not too far from this location.

Birds seen today were, Buzzard, House Sparrow, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Whitehroat, Robin, Wren, Dunnock, Skylark, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Song Thrush, Pied Wagtail Grey Wagatil, Cormorant, Common Tern, House Martin, Swallow, Mute Swan, Great Crested Grebe, Mallard and Coot.

In other news, Warwickshire County Council have recently destroyed House Martin nests with juveniles present on the Coleshill library which is illegal under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, they say they are investigating the crime but to be honest that shouldn't be hard as it happened with their own CCTV cameras directly below the nests, it has occurred sometime on the previous ten days of this post, please feel free to contact them to let them know of your disdain at this disgusting act and to make sure the person(s) responsible are held accountable for their criminal actions, this is there phone number - 01926 410410 and head office address - Shire Hall, Market Place, Warwick, CV34 4RL.
