Plantsbrook Nature Reserve.
A game of two halves today at Plantsbrook today because we we got there it tipped down for the first hour where contemplation of going home was a distinct possibility when it suddenly stopped and gave way to clear blue skies for the rest of the morning. The first two pools when you go in were covered with a thin blanket of ice so there was no waterfowl, luckily the largest pool was ice free and full of various birds.
It was nice to see a flock of Reed Bunting today for the first time in a while as was the sighting of a male Blackcap and a fair sized flock of Chaffinch and House Sparrow. Whilst walking around a heard a flock of Long Tailed Tit above me so I looked up and was treated to the sight of a Goldcrest foraging on a tree branch about two feet above my head.
Birds seen today were Goldcrest, Blackcap (male), Reed Bunting, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Wren, Robin, Redwing, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Carrion Crow, Woodpigeon, Grey Heron, Cormorant, Great Crested Grebe, Moorhen, Coot, Tufted Duck and Mallard.
