Sheldon Country Park.
A trip to Sheldon Country Park farm, Sheldon Country Park and the woodlands and river around Birmingham International Airport. Not a bad day for birding apart from it being very windy. Birds spotted were Great Spotted Woodpecker, Redwing, Song Thrush, Pied Wagtail, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Goldfinch, House Sparrow, Dunnock, Wren, Starling and Collared Dove. The authorities at the airport have had a large portion of trees and bushes cut down on the approach to the flight path because of the birds flying up out of them, which firstly I don't agree with because they shoot birds (Magpies, Carrion Crows, Satrlings etc.) on site anyway, so they don't have to go messing with the grounds that aren't even theirs anyway, but secondly they haven't even done it well, the trees now just look a mess and they have left loads of rubbish behind including lots of hazard warning tape (which I picked up.) Just lately I'm sick of reading stories such as a so called human being feeding a live kitten to a python (the same bitch even drowned a kitten in the bath) both of which she filmed and uploaded to YouTube, burglars killing a kitten in a microwave, burying dogs alive, a horse found minutes from death because it was caught up in barbed wire and drowning in the mud (a case which the RSPCA refused to prosecute) people cutting the heads of ponies etc... So here's a few stories which are actually good for a change. 49 Little Blue Penguins being released back into the sea after being cleaned up following the recent oil spill in New Zealand. Rescued Lab Beagles seeing sunlight and the outside of their cages for the first time in their lives. And finally Lab Chimps who were experimented on with HIV, seeing the outside world for the first time ever. If the videos relating to these stories don't move you, then there is something wrong with you !
