Babbs Mill Nature Reserve, Kingshurst.

Good days birdwatching in Kingshurst. Bird species spotted were Kingfisher, 70 plus Redwing feeding off the grass along with 50 plus Fieldfare, Jay, Song Thrush, Goldfinch, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Robin, Dunnock, Collared Dove, Grey Heron, Goosander, Great Crested Grebe, Tufted Duck and plenty of all the different Gull species. Also saw 20 odd Starlings having a bath in a water furrows left by a big vehicle. Also found some excellent winter fungus on a dead log, 'Flammulina Velutpes' more commonly known as Velvet Foot.

Shustoke Reservoir.

Excellent day birdwatching at Shustoke Reservoir. Bird species spotted at the reservoir, the fly fishing pool and nearby farmers fields were Buzzard, Kestrel, 18 Grey Partridge, Pheasant, Redwing, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Pied Wagtail, Long Tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Robin, Dunnock, a flock of 100 plus Carrion Crow, Grey Heron, Cormorant, Little Grebe, Great  Crested Grebe, Goosander, Teal, Pochard and Tufted Duck. Also saw some Rabbits running around the edge of the fly fishing pool. Found the Gull in the last picture on the banks of the Reservoir, so I took the poor thing home and buried it in the back garden along with all the Cats, Budgies and Hamsters already out there.

Pype Hayes Park and Fish Pond.

Bird species of note spotted today were a Kestrel (sitting on top of a small fir tree surveying the Pype Hayes Hall grounds) Buzzard, a huge flock of 100 plus Redwing, Song Thrush, Bullfinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Chaffinch, Jay, Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Wren, Robin and the usual Tufted Duck, Mallard, Coot, Canada Geese and Gulls on the fish pond, also the pair of Swans who sucessfully reared 3 Cygnets last year have returned again.

Ward End Park.

Quick 60 minute visit to Ward End Park. All bird species spotted today were Long Tailed Tit, Blue Tit, Great Tit, a flock of 70 plus Redwing, Song Thrush, Robin, Blackbird, Collared Dove, Wood Pigeon, Magpie, Carrion Crow, Starling, Tufted Duck, Mallard, Coot (including the first one I've seen this year on a nest on the water getting ready for the breeding season) Moorhen, Canada Geese, Pekin Duck, Muscovy Duck, Herring Gull and Lesser Black Backed Gull. Also saw a Grey Squirrel dodging the Canada Geese and Carrion Crows to get some food scraps on the floor. What with the Coot nest building, Snowdrops on the floor, the Songbirds (especially Song Thrushes and Robins) and the Sparrows being more audible, Spring is definately just around the corner.

Plantsbrook Nature Reserve.

A good day birdwatching today in the warmer weather and lovely blue skies. Bird species of note spotted today were Buzzard, Kestrel (circling the Buzzard), Great Spotted Woodpecker, Jay, a noisy flock of 100 plus Redwing, Song Thrush, Reed Bunting, Bullfinch, Goldfinch, Chaffinch, Long Tailed Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Robin, Collared Dove, Grey Heron, Goosander, Tufted Duck, Lesser Black Backed Gull and Herring Gull.

Babbs Mill Nature Reserve, Kingshurst.

Not the best day for birdwatching being as it was very windy. Still saw the following birds though, Goldfinches, Song Thrushes (singing away) Wrens, Long Tailed Tits, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Dunnocks, Robins (also having a good sing) a Grey Wagtail on the River Cole, Goosanders, Pochards, Great Crested Grebes, Tufted Ducks, Moorhens 2 pairs of Swans as well as the usual Coots, Canada Geese, Mallards, Gulls, and Farmyard Ducks (which were apparently dumped at the lake a couple of years back, just like they were at Ward End Park as well at the same time.)

Shustoke Reservoir.

Great day birdwatching on a cold but sunny Shustoke Reservoir. Birds spotted were 30 plus Siskin bathing in a shallow inlet of water then preening themselves in the tree above, Meadow Pipits, Bullfinches, Chaffinches, Wrens, Song Thrushes, Long Tailed Tits, Great Tits, Blue Tits, Pied Wagtails, Robins, a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers, 6 Grey Partridge in a field by the Fly Fishing pool, Robins, Goosanders, lots of Teal, Pochard and Wigeon, Great Crested Grebes, Tufted Ducks, Cormorants and a young Grey Heron on the reservoir and an adult Grey Heron on the Fly Fishing pool. Being as I don't normally mention the more common birds just thought I'd mention I also saw plenty of Tree Sparrows and Blackbirds everywhere I went. I also saw plenty of Rabbits. Unusually I didn't see one Raptor all day, which is very unusual for Shustoke.
