Pype Hayes Park.

Early morning trip out to Pype Hayes Park to try and beat the midday heat.

Surprise of the day was seeing a Muscovy Duck on the pool who apparently had been rescued from some horrible owners who had mistreated him by the RSPCA and given a new home on the pool. Hopefully he'll be around for a long while yet and be much happier on the pool.

Birds seen were Kestrel, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Chaffinch, Goldfinch, Greenfinch, Dunnock, Robin, Starling, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Carrion Crew, Magpie, Woodpigeon, Feral Pigeon, Cormorant, Mute Swan, Great Crested Grebe, Moorhen, Coot, Mallard, Canada Goose as well as the following juveniles, Whitethraot, Blue Tit, Starling, Cygnet (6), Great Crested Grebe (1), Moorhen (2) and Mallard (at least 15).

On the whole it was fairly quiet bird wise but it was nice to see the rescued Muscovy Duck and many juvenile water fowl.

Just as I was praising the Council for leaving the wildflower meadows alone, lo and behold, the lawnmowers have done their dirty deed and now it just looks a barren wasteland with not a single bee or butterfly on this stretch of land which is a real shame.
